Supporting the Next Generation of STEM Professionals
In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it’s more important than ever that our nation’s youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions. These are the kinds of skills that students develop in science, technology, engineering and math—disciplines collectively known as STEM.
As a science-based organization, STEM education is of the utmost importance to Waters. We take great pride in growing and developing our high-quality workforce, adding jobs around the world and investing in the next generation of STEM professionals. That is why we are thrilled to enter into a collaboration with Junior Achievement, one of the world’s largest youth-serving NGOs that prepares young people for employment and entrepreneurship.
As part of the collaboration, Waters and Junior Achievement will partner to provide on-site STEM-focused training programs to young students globally. Programs include classroom-based learning and experiments, job shadowing and site tours. Waters’ employees around the world will volunteer their time and expertise to implement inspiring STEM learning experiences.
Recently, students from Lawrence High School visited Waters’ Beverly, MA office and participated in multiple experiments designed to teach them about the fundamentals of mass spectrometry. In addition, through these hands-on experiments, students were exposed to the significant positive impact they can have on human health and well-being through STEM-based careers.
We look forward to many more of these training opportunities over the coming months. Our goal is for all students, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status to be prepared for the future and exposed to the industries and opportunities that STEM creates.
